Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences is continuation of the journal Roczniki Nauk Rolniczych (since 1903), Ser. B. Zootechnika published in Polish by the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1969.

The present editor and publisher endeavour to publish all articles submitted to the Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences as rapidly as possible in perfect typographic condition.

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

1. General information

The Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences publishes original papers on basic and applied research in the field of animal breeding and genetics, physiology of nutrition, animal feeding, feed technology and food preservation. Occasional review articles in specialized fields are also accepted. Presentation of part of the paper at a scientific meeting or publication in another journal should be notified. All papers must be written in clear and concise English. Authors receive free electronic PDF version of their paper instead of royalties. The editor and publisher request all authors to carefully observe the recommendations laid down in this Instructions to Authors.

2. Acceptance of manuscripts

After receiving the opinions of the Editorial Board experts, the editor decides on acceptance of the articles, necessary corrections or revisions. E-mail version and one copy of the manuscript with CD should be addressed directly to the Editorial Secretary of the Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences, Institute of Animal Physiology and Nutrition, 05-110 Jabłonna near Warsaw, Poland or e-mail: jafsed@ifzz.pan.pl. The day the manuscript reaches the editors for the first time is given upon publication as the date received.

3. Requirements for manuscripts

Form and size

Manuscripts must by typewritten on one side with a left-hand margin of 4 cm and double-spaced with numbered lines on the left margin. Inclusive of illustrations, tables and references, the article should not exceed 18 manuscript pages on the standard DIN A4 sheet.

Title

This should be clear, descriptive, not too long but explanatory of the purpose of the paper. Author’s names with initials and place where the work was carried out and e-mail address of corresponding author should be given.

ABSTRACT

Abstract. An English abstract, not exceeding 150 words, should give the major objectives, methods, main results and conclusions.

KEY WORDS

Key words-list up to six key words which best describe the results and topics. Key words must be selected from the list provided from Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux Thesaurus.

INTRODUCTION

The aim of the investigation and hyphothesis should be given along with a brief review of previous relevant work with references.

Experimental

The methods and materials used should be clearly stated in sufficient detail to permit the work to be repeated if desired. Only new techniques need be described in detail but known methods should have adequate references with eventual modifications. Statistical methods and computer programs should be obligatory specified.

RESULTS

These should be presented concisely, using tables or illustrations for clarity. Adequate indication of the level of experimental error and the statistical methods and significance of results should be given. The number of illustrations and graphical chemical formule must be kept to a minimum. Main and subsidiary headings should be clearly distinguished.

Tables, figures and illustrations

Tables should be simple and few feasible for presentation of the essential data and should not duplicate information in the text or figures. Tables on separate pages should be added to the manuscript and numbered according to their sequence in the text. The text should include references to all tables and illustrations. Column headings should be brief, but sufficiently explanatory. Units of measurement should be added. Explanations essential to the understanding of the table should be given in footnotes at the bottom of the table. All illustrations should be given separately, numbered according to their sequence in the text and accompanied by a caption. Figures should be saved in a neutral data format such as: xls, jpg, tiff. Scanned figures (only jpg and tiff format should have a resolution of 300 dpi (halftone) or 600 to 1200 dpi (line drawings) in relation to the reproduction size. Text figures, line drawings, computer-generated figures and graphs should be of sufficient size and quality to allow for reduction by half or two-thirds. Each illustration should be on a separate sheet, added to the manuscript. Photographs are only acceptable if they have good contrast and intensity.

DISCUSSION

It is desirable that the presentation of the results and the discussion of their significance should be given separately.

CONCLUSIONS

These should not merely repeat preceding sections.

REFERENCES

All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references alphabetically according to authors surnames following the text of the manuscript. In the text refer to the author's name (without initials) and year of publication. If reference is made in the text to a publication written by more than two authors, the name of the first author should be used followed by “et al.”. When an article has more than ten authors, only the names of the first three should be given followed by “et al.”. References cited together in the text should be arranged chronologically. The following system for arranging references should be used

for papers in periodicals:

Proceedings of an International Symposium on Protein Requirements for Cattle. Oklahoma State University, Still-water, OK, pp. 265-279

for books and edited volumes:
